August Reading Challenge
Theme: tackling your TBR
I feel as though one experience we all share as readers is having an overwhelming TBR that constantly grows with new book recommendations and new releases. I definitely know that I have plenty of books on my TBR which I added months or even years ago and I still haven’t gotten around to reading them.
This month, I challenge you to pick up some of those books and finally read them. Who knows, maybe you wil discover your new favourite? 🥰
Choose your level:
Level: easy
Read a book that has been on your TBR for a really long time now and you still haven’t read it.
Level: medium
Read a book that has been on your TBR for quite a while now but you haven’t picked it up because it intimidated you or start a book series that has been on your TBR for a really long time and which you didn’t get to yet.
Level: hard
This month, only read books that have been on your TBR for a long time now and at least one which you haven’t read yet because picking it up intimidated you.
My goals for this month:
I will use this challenge as the push I need to finally start the Game of Thrones series. I feel as though summer is the best time for such a project since I have more time to read. That will make it easier to actually finish the book without forgetting everything that has happened so far by the time I can continue reading the story. Wish me luck with that … 😅
I have a feeling that this book will fill my reading month of August with its 800 or so pages, so maybe I will read Sanctuary by Paola Mendoza and Abby Sher beforehand (which has also been on my TBR since the beginning of this year or even longer). I would also love to finally read the Scythe series by Neal Shusterman but I don’t think reading Game of Thrones while also reading another series is a good idea… that would probably only lead to confusion on my part. On the other hand, I don’t want to wait another year to read Scythe and it will surely take me a while to get through all of the Game of Thrones books, so who knows?
Which leads me to the conclusion that life is definitely too short for the massive amount of books on my TBR. 🥲
Some inspiration for choosing the books from your TBR you want to tackle:
- Is there a series you have started/are in the middle of but haven’t continued reading in a while? This might be a good time to finally finish that project.
- Is there any book that you are really excited to read but with new releases and recommendations you got from friends/online you haven’t had the time to pick it up yet? Use this as an excuse to pick up that book and let all your new additions wait for a little while.
- Is there a book you wanted to get to for a while now but you are intimidated by its thickness or its complexity? Just try it out, you may wish you had done so earlier!
- You are one of those people that always want to read but can’t seem to actually put their plan into practice? This is your time to finally give it a go. Just choose a short book from your TBR and start reading. As soon as you get into reading, it might be difficult to abandon that hobby again. 😇
I hope you enjoy this challenge! I would love to hear which books you want to tackle, so feel free to comment below.
