Reading Update September
I was quite busy the past few weeks, moving out and getting settled in a new city so I haven’t been very active on my Instagram or my blog lately but I am slowly developing a routine and promise to be more active again, especially on my blog which I have neglected a bit the past months…
Anyway, here is a little update on what I am currently reading and what I am planning on reading next.
My current read
I am still reading We Free The Stars by Hafsah Faizal and seeing as I am only halfway through I will probably be reading this book for at least another week. I am really enjoying this book so far, even more so than the first book because the characters are further developed and the story took some unexpected and interesting turns. However, I am curious how the author will be able to wrap the story up in the remaining 300 or so pages because at the moment, there are so many unresolved obstacles and I hope the resolution of the conflict won’t be rushed… but I am going to be optimistic about it and assume the author has put thought into the ending and made sure everything wraps up nicely 🙂
My fall TBR
I have to admit I don’t have an actual fall TBR with specific books to match the fall vibe, but I do have a general idea of what I am going to read the next few months, so here is my plan:
Project 1 : reading Fire & Blood
!!! Paragraph contains slight spoilers for GoT seasons 1 to 3/ the three first books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. !!!
Are you surprised this book is featured on here? If you follow me on Instagram, you might have noticed that I am a huge Game of Thrones fan, if not you are now aware of this fact… so it wasn’t even a question that I would need to read the prequel. Plus, I can’t wait to finally catch up on season 1 of House of the Dragon after finishing the book and be able to experience season 2 right as it will be released. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very skilled when it came to avoiding spoilers for the first season so I already know way too much about what is happening in the show… but the sooner I read the book, the less likely I am to encounter even more spoilers. I am definitely curious to see what the book has in store… let’s just hope there aren’t too many weddings 😉 Anyway, I am betting that at least half of my favourite characters will meet their end in a *not so nice* way… but that is the fate of a Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon fan I guess… It surely will be interesting to get more background information about the world I have grown to love and hate over the course of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels and to see the historical events mentioned in the original series “come to live” and shown in more detail. I am not sure yet whether this will be my next read, but it will definitely be read soon. By the way, if anyone would like to do a buddy-read, feel free to DM me on Instagram 🙂
Project 2: The Hunger Games re-read
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie being released in November is the perfect excuse for me to re-read the entire series. I am admittedly not a person who normally re-reads books, in fact I have only re-read three books so far in my life, but for my favourite books I will make an exception because they deserve to be revisited. I can’t wait to dive into the world and follow the characters on their journey once again. This will also be an excellent opportunity to pick up on foreshadowing and to see in which ways my perception of the books has changed (after all, I read the first book in 2018, a little more than five years ago and it has even been three years since I read Ballad, my most recent read of the series as it was only released in 2020). I have rewatched the four existing movies a couple of times though, and the story has stayed with me ever since first reading it, so there likely won’t be any surprises but I am sure I will still enjoy the experience because there is so much more to the story than just the thrill of finding out what happens next (and let’s be honest, with the amount of spoilers I had come across before finishing the books, there weren’t much surprises the first time around either…) As for Fire & Blood, if anyone is interested in a buddy-read, just DM me on Instagram 🙂
Project 3: lots of fantasy books
Who am I even kidding? “Lots of” fantasy books in this case means probably one or maybe two because let’s be realistic, I don’t read more than one book per week, often less especially when the books are chunky like Fire & Blood and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes are… but I like creating ambitious reading plans even if I know that I won’t be able to stick to them 🙂 Some of the books that are on my “priority TBR” at the moment are: Six Crimson Cranes duology and its prequel Her Radiant Curse, the Daevabad trilogy, Priory of the Orange Tree, A Study in Drowning, and many more that I don’t remember at this moment but that I either saved on Instagram, took a photo of in a bookstore or noted somewhere on a piece of paper. Which of those I am actually going to read this fall, I guess we will see…
What are your reading plans for fall? Do you have any specific book recommendations that fit the fall vibes? I would love to discuss in the comments!
